Law Awards of Scotland 2009

Angus Macaulay & Louise KIng17 September 2009

Inksters staff and guests attended the Law Awards of Scotland 2009 at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.

Inksters were nominated for Marketing Team of the Year, Trainee of the Year (Kathleen Simmonds), Family Law Firm of the Year and Law Firm of the Year (under 50 fee earners).

Clive Stafford Smith, founder and legal director of death penalty charity Reprieve, gave the keynote address. Stafford Smith, who has been campaigning on death penalty issues for over twenty years, recently secured the release and return to the UK of Binyam Mohamed, who had been kidnapped, tortured and illegally held at Guantanamo Bay.  He continues to campaign on behalf of the unknown thousands still held in 'dark' prisons beyond the reach of the usual channels of legal care, and has been instrumental in pressing the UK Government to publish information in relation to illegal rendition and torture practices.

After dinner Paul McBride QC was Master of Ceremonies as the awards were handed out. The evening finished with dancing until late.
